Foothills Trail
The Foothills Trail is a 77 mile wilderness trail that traverses the southern Appalachian Mountain Range in northern South Carolina. From end to end it is about a 5-10 day hike for the average hiker.
The views are spectacular, the ridge line mountain terrain is difficult but well worth the challenge, one of the rewards is standing on top of Sassafras Mountain, the highest mountain in South Carolina at 3,564 feet.
Camping and water is excellent throughout this journey, with plenty of great camp locations.
The creeks and streams are usually clear and begin from natural springs which create amazing waterfalls.
The trail extends from Table Rock State Park to Oconee State Park around the northern end of Lake Jocassee. In Oconee State Park, the FT intersects with The Palmetto Trail (Leg #5 and The Bartram Trail (Leg #4) and the adventures continue.
The Foothills Trail is a great training trail for future Appalachian Trail Seekers and even great for the experienced hiker to get back out and feel nature again.
